2020 TL Conference

Our Annual Transformative Learning Conference was canceled for 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The theme was to be “Foundations and Frontiers: Exploring, Embracing, and Advancing Transformative Learning,” which will be carried to our 2023 TL Conference.

Planned speakers and schedule for the canceled conference are below.


Keynote Speakers

PETER DOOLITTLE

Peter Doolittle is the Director of the School of Education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). He was Assistant Provost for Teaching and Learning for many years. He is the recipient of many teaching awards as well as having been the Executive Editor of the International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and the International Journal of ePortfolio. He is also the author of more than ten book chapters, 35 peer-reviewed journal articles, and has given over 50 keynotes and plenary addresses. His TED presentation on “Working memory and the processing of life” was presented at the TED Global in Edinburgh, Scotland.

CHRISTINE HARRINGTON

Dr. Christine Harrington is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at New Jersey City University.  She is the author of Student Success in College: Doing What Works! 3rd edition. She also co-authored with Todd Zakrajsek Dynamic Lecturing: Research-Based Strategies for Evidence-Based Practices, and Designing a Motivational Syllabus: Creating a Learning Path for Student Engagement with Melissa Thomas, both published by Stylus.  She is a contributing author of Foundations for Critical Thinking, published by the National Resource Center on the First-Year Experience and Transitions. Most recently, she co-authored, with Theresa Orosz, Why the First-Year Seminar Matters: Helping Students Choose and Stay on a Career Path.  Dr. Harrington is frequently invited to present at conferences and at colleges and universities.

TREVOR COX

Trevor is an Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator for the Organizational Leadership degree at the University of Central Oklahoma. The degree he oversees is a state of Oklahoma initiative to help adults return to school and complete their degree online. He loves working with this population and seeing the inspirational stories of people returning to school. Trevor specializes in leadership development, diversity and inclusion, and Transformative Learning. In addition to his faculty roles in adult learning, he also has worked in a variety of leadership and consulting positions helping diverse groups reach their full potential, and think more inclusively about their work. He also enjoys working with the Transformative Learning initiatives at UCO.

Program Schedule and Location

The Student Transformative Learning Record (STLR) pre-conference was to be held on the Edmond, OK campus of the University of Central Oklahoma on Wednesday, March 8, 2020, while the main conference was to be held in downtown Oklahoma City at the Embassy Suites (Medical Center), 741 N. Phillips, Oklahoma City, OK  73104 on Thursday-Friday, March 9-10, 2020.
